Small boat day tip snorkeling, picnic, tortoise sanctuary visit
- Friends of ours can take you on a day trip island hopping to Zanzibar’s small out islands. We recommend Changu Island, also called Prison Island. It was built, but never used, as a prison. It was a quarantine station for ships entering Zanzibar’s port.
- It’s a tortoise sanctuary now.And there’s a nice café, bar & hotel.A gift shop and book store were going in the last time we were there. It’s a relaxing spot, a beach with shade. It’s a nice place for beginners to learn to snorkel in shallow water.Lots of star fish in the water there.Walking trails, historical buildings, something for everyone.

- Explore on your own or take a guided architectural tour
- Stone Town is roughly the shape of a right triangle, with the sea on two sides and the market street on the third.Paved streets exist for cars and mini-buses on the exterior, but only foot, bicycle and motor bike traffic penetrate inside a maze of streets and vichochoro (alleys) that will delight and confuse.Zanzibar is an ancient city with a rich exciting history, interesting shopping for curios, clothes and handcrafts, great restaurants and sea views.
- We have budget accommodations both in Stone Town and on the North Coast of Zanzibar.

We have the most beautiful beaches
- A stunning beach awaits you a 10 minute stroll from our door.Zanzibar is ringed with gorgeous white sand beaches, clear water and excellent diving and snorkeling opportunities.Do you want surf or calm waters for easy swimming? We can take you to a different beach every day! Here are just a few of my favorite beach pictures from Nungwi and other beaches.
- Spanish Dancer Dive Shop is one of the oldest in Nungwi and is our neighbor. Here’s a link to their site. People who dive with Spanish Dancer can expect a discount from Magharibi House. http://www.spanishdancerdivers.com

Red Colobus Monkeys, Jozani
- The Red Colobus is a species unique to Zanzibar and was considered endangered. A healthy colony is being well looked after in their home, the Jozani forest, and are there for you to see.
- We have budget accommodations both in Stone Town and on the North Coast of Zanzibar.

Spice Farm tour and exotic fruit tasting
- The spice tour is a popular half day trip on the road between town and Nungwi. Stretch your legs.Learn about spice cultivation. Walk in gardens and groves.Smell, taste, laugh. The tour guides can be very entertaining. Spices make nice lightweight gifts for your “foodie” friends at home.

There’s lots more to do in Zanzibar not mentioned on these pages. You can go swim with dolphins in Kizimkazi, tour the slave caves at Mangapwani, take a bike ride, tour ancient baths and palaces, visit a day spa, attend a full moon beach party, or just relax and read a book from the collection of 100s of novels at Magharibi House.
- Every June or July, Zanzibar hosts the Zanzibar International Film Festival.
- Every February we have the Sauti ya Busara music festival.
- From Zanzibar you can fly to Kilimanjaro International Airport for safaris in the ‘northern circuit’ game parks (Serengetti, Ngorongoro, Lake Manyara, etc.). But we recommend a short direct flight to one of the southern game parks, the Selous or Ruaha.
